Major Initatives

Beating Business Crime

The Warwickshire Business Crime and Disorder Partnership has employed a co-ordinator since January 2000.  This is a police led, private sector funded activity to prevent and reduce business crime.

As part of the work with the police the co-ordinator has bid for funds from the Home Office Crime Reduction Programme.  This bid has been successful and funding has been awarded to fund three interventions.

To reduce commercial burglary re victimisation.

At present 15% of all commercial premises that are burgled are subjects of a second burglary within 12 months, most within 28 days.

Funding has been gained to employ two business crime advisors .  Their priority task is to visit the subjects of all commercial burglary within 5 days of the original crime, to carry out a security survey and provide advice and assistance to minimise the likelihood of a repeat offence. This work should also lead to a reduction of other commercial crime at these locations.

Business Watch

To put in place a high tech business watch system, of which Studley is the leading light in Warwickshire.  The monies provided will finance both the hardware and software required. Business will be able to communicate by email, fax, and Watches will be clustered by geographic location or premises type, such as hotels.

Business Crime Education

The intention is use this part of the funding to cover the cost of publications and provide resources to educate both police and business to prevent and reduce business crime. It is planned to orgainise a series of business crime road shows on trading estates.

Studley Business Watch and Gordon Wilkes have contributed to the development of this bid.  Gordon has now joined the Partnership management committee.  The Partnership is very grateful for all the help given.
